Generating a Thesis Statement
Your research paper should do the following:
- make a claim about a topic
- justify this claim with specific evidence
- goal of this paper is to convince the audience that the claim is true based on the evidence provided.
You are writing a research paper that will convince your reader to donate their hard-earned money to the the NGO you have chosen to research. You are using evidence to persuade your reader throughout the paper. This evidence comes from the NGO’s website, Charity Navigator, The New York Times, and other reputable sources you have already found.
Your thesis statement should be specific- it should only cover what you will discuss in your paper and should be supported with specific evidence.
Example:
Here is an example of a thesis that would be used in a persuasive paper about high school graduates:
High school graduates should be required to take a year off to pursue community service projects before entering college in order to increase their maturity and global awareness.
The paper that follows this thesis should do the following:
- present an argument and give evidence to support the claim that students should pursue community projects before entering college.
